A 15 day overland journey through hills and backwaters in every colour of green you can imagine
Take your time to adjust to the hustle of India as you arrive at Kochi airport. Our itinerary will start from tomorrow. We believe having a moment to relax after a flight is important to start fresh the next day. Later in the evening we will meet up at the hotel lobby for a quick introduction and will head off to have our first meal together.
Day 2 -3
Let us start off by discovering the little gems that make Cochin so special. Fort area is up first as we cycle through the quiet streets and visit st. Fransis church and the Dutch cemetery. The next day we will visit Jew town and Synagogue, later that evening we will visit a local family to watch a cooking demonstration.

After a short drive we will embark on a lovely 6 bedroom houseboat to explore the backwaters and river life of the villages of Kerala. There is no need to leave the boat as there is a chef on board to cook for us and staff to look after us. As the house boat slowly passes through the narrow backwaters you could climb in a canoe and go for a short trip by yourself or simply relax and watch the scenery pass by.
Houseboat experience, village life, kayak
Periyar After exploring the backwater we will now head into the lush forests of the Idukki district close to the border of Tamil Nadu. We will arrive a bit later in the afternoon and have a moment to get settled into your new room. We could go for an evening trekking expedition. Nothing crazy!, Just a leisurely stroll through nature with a local guide, spot butterflies, squirrel and birds. On day 6 we have a full day to observe nature in all her glory!
Jeep safari, trekking
We are in the state of Tamil Nadu close to the town Dindigul. Here you are far away from the hustle and the noise of the Indian cities, surrounded by hills and a lake. After arrival you can get familiar with the house and spend time relaxing and taking in the nature around you. Spend time reading, writing or some photography or even chatt with the eccentric English owner of the property. A tour of the local village will give you an insight how people in a rural village live. A visit to Madurai is also a great option to spend one of the days visiting the Sri Mahalaxi temple. Then come back to nature.
Trekking, Local village experience, optional day trip to Madurai
As there isn’t that much to do in Coimbatore, see this night as a stop-over. What we will do is visit the local cinema! Enjoy a Bollywood film in the local picture house. Even if we don’t know what they are saying believe me you are able to understand most of it! It’s good fun.
Nilgiris Coonoor is a small village in the Blue Mountains of the Nilgiri region and is 1850 m above sea level. Many travellers are familiar with this beautiful region for its tea and the famous toy train that runs to Ooty. Built by the British in 1908 and still runs twice a day. We will spend the day at our resort and in the surroundings of nature. We have also included a short visit to a tea factory and tea tasting at the hotel. As this area is famous for tea we are not to miss out on this!
Tea tasting and tea factory visit
We will embark the Nilgiri Mountain Railways train early morning at 7:00 which will drop us in Ooty around noon and from there on we will drive towards Wayanad, a region bordering Karnataka in the far north of Kerala. Simply enjoy this special train ride and take in the views along the journey to Wayanad. Once arrived in Wayanad we will visit the Edakkal caves the following day.
