Please understand that we share the following advice with you to give you an idea about the visa procedures. You will still need to read all the requirements on the Indian Visa Service website to make sure you have all the correct documents ready before you submit your forms.
Indian Visa: How do I get one?
Find out more about the required documents and other important information via this link.
Applying for an Indian visa could be a bit of a hassle. We advise you to read all the information given on the VFS website. You will need to give yourself enough time to apply for the visa and need to make sure all the documents required are included and filled in correctly.
For readers from the UK visit www.in.vfsglobal.co.uk here you will find all the information you need to complete your application and where to go for an appointment.
What type of visa do I need?
Depending on what kind of visa you are applying for the consular will require certain documents from you. You can apply for Tourist, Business, Urgent Business, Employment, Student or Entry Visa. If you are travelling for leisure, for up to 6 month you should select the Tourist Visa option for 6 months. There is an option to apply for a 12 month visa, but if the consular rejects your application you will need to apply again. Selecting the 12 month option could be a waste of time.
For exact details please visit www.in.vfsglobal.co.uk. Requirements do tend to change. Please keep yourself well informed and read the requirements on the India Visa Service website.
Online application form
The application form has to be filled in online and won’t be accepted if it is hand written. Questions about your religion, your parents’ details and where you have travelled in the past 10 years will be on the form. You will also need to provide two references, one in India and one in the UK. If you are travelling with us on a Private Tour we will confirm a reference for you to apply to your application. If you are travelling by yourself, you could use a hotel address as a reference.

The fee you are required to pay changes according to what passport you hold. UK passport holders generally pay £89.44 for a 6 month Tourist Visa.
It should not take that long for UK passport holders to receive a visa. It generally takes between 3-5 working days, but we do strongly advise to take around two weeks before travelling date to send in your documents to calculate unforeseen happenings. If you have time to submit your application early, just do it!
Please note that visas are valid from the date of issue and not date of travel.
Before planning and booking your ticket check the consular holidays (there are quite a few)
When signing the forms it needs to be precise within the box provided.
You will need to book an appointment before visiting the visa service office. (or visit the office and wait in line)
